Mario A. Bourdon

Founder at BioLaurus

Mario A. Bourdon is the founder of BioLaurus, a biomedical research institute focused on basic and translational research in the areas of cancer, asthma/immunology, central nervous system, and cardiovascular disease. Prior to founding BioLaurus, Bourdon served as the CEO and Scientific Director of La Jolla Institute for Molecular Medicine from January 1992 to December 2007. In this role, they were responsible for leading the transition of the organization to a fully NIH-funded research institute. Mario also designed a 21,000 square foot state-of-the-art research facility and directed all phases of research and business operations, including research program development, grants administration, financial affairs, and pharmaceutical company interactions. Bourdon also recruited and led a scientific research faculty of 14 PhDs, MDs, and MD/PhDs serving as principal investigators. Mario also led the development of multi-disciplinary Centers of Excellence in cancer, cardiovascular disease, and immunology. Prior to their role at La Jolla Institute for Molecular Medicine, Bourdon served as Research Director at CIBR from January 1989 to December 1992.

Dr. Bourdon received their Ph.D. in cancer biology and immunology from Duke University. Mario also holds a BA in biology from the University of California, San Diego.
