James MacDonald

James MacDonald is an Associate Director and Senior Scientist at BioNTech SE since October 2021, following a tenure at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering where roles included Senior Staff Scientist and Staff Scientist from August 2016 to October 2021. At the Wyss Institute, MacDonald led projects in protein chemistry and DNA nanotechnology, mentoring emerging scientists and collaborating across disciplines to advance diagnostics and therapeutics. Previous experience includes roles at UC Berkeley as a Graduate Student Researcher under Prof. Matthew Francis, focusing on protein modification and characterization, and various positions at Pfizer where contributions to peptide linkers and small molecule synthesis were made. MacDonald holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Richmond.
