João Marecos

João Marecos has had a varied work experience, beginning with a Summer Trainee role at Linklaters in 2012. João then became an Associate at the same company in 2013. In 2018, they moved to TLDR Global as Counsel. In 2019, they became Founder of Ockham Legal, a platform for a General Counsel as a Service solution for tech startups, and also took on a Consultant role at the World Health Organization, advising on the public health threat caused by digital misinformation in relation to NCDs risk factors. João also became General Counsel at Bitrefill in 2019. In 2021, they became Co-Founder of Mensagem de Lisboa, a community newspaper based in Lisbon's historic café "A Brasileira", a place for local journalism, stories, culture and people.

João Marecos is currently a PhD Candidate at Imperial College London, studying Health Misinformation. Prior to this, they obtained a Master of Laws - LLM from New York University in 2018, where they studied Competition, Innovation and Information Law. In 2015, they completed a Post-Graduate Degree in Intellectual Property Law from Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Lisboa. João also holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the same institution, which they completed in 2013. In addition, João Marecos is certified by the New York State Bar Association and the Portuguese Bar Association.
