Paul Freeman

Vice President, Engineering at BitRouter

Paul Freeman has worked in the engineering industry since 1983. Paul began their career as a Senior Hardware Design Engineer at Planning Research Corporation. In 1995, they moved to AT&T, where they worked as a Software Architect and was granted a patent from development work on an ATM based digital video server for video on demand applications. In 1996, they moved to Microware as a Senior Software Architect. In 1997, they moved to Softprose as a Principal Software Architect, where they developed embedded software architecture and implementation of an ATSC-1 software stack for set top boxes and television sets. In 2001, they moved to Next Level Communications as an Engineering Manager, leading a remote team of highly qualified engineers developing embedded software for digital TV VDSL based set top box. Finally, in 2003, they moved to BitRouter, where they are currently the Vice President of Engineering. Paul'sduties include technical architecture, hands on implementation, and product definition. Paul'steam's prior work at BitRouter included development of software stacks for cable STBs used by various major cable MSOs as well as the development of an ATSC-1 SW stack licensed to numerous SoC companies and consumer electronic OEMs.

Paul Freeman obtained their Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1983. Paul then earned their Master's degree in Computer Engineering from the same university in 1990. Finally, they received their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University in 1995.
