Philip Gladstone

Philip Gladstone has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over several decades. Philip began their career as an intern at IBM in 1977. From there, they worked as a Higher Scientific Officer at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, where they maintained minicomputers and developed device drivers and protocols.

In 1983, they joined Beale Electronic Systems as a Chief Guru, where they designed and implemented device drivers for the 10Mbit token ring.

In 1985, Gladstone became a System Architect at Data General, where they worked on a standards-based email switch called CommServer and developed various interfaces. Philip also worked on a trunk telex interface.

From 1995 to 2000, they served as a Principal Engineer at Raptor Systems, where they worked on the Raptor Firewall and designed and implemented various proxy services.

In 2000, they joined Okena as a System Architect and worked on system architecture until 2003 when they joined Cisco Systems as a Distinguished Engineer. At Cisco, they were responsible for the Cisco Security Agent and later worked on the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client. Philip also served as Cisco's official W3C representative and collaborated with external organizations on security matters.

In 2005, Gladstone started their own venture, weather.gladstonefamily.net, where they built, operated, and maintained a weather data analysis website.

Since 2012, they have been working as the Chief Architect at BitSight Technologies, where they focus on security and big data. Philip works on automating the process of IT security rating by analyzing externally visible evidence of security practices.

Philip Gladstone attended Eton College from 1971 to 1976. Philip studied at the University of Cambridge from 1977 to 1980 and obtained an MA degree in Mathematics.
