Jack Ward has a wealth of experience in cyber security, vulnerability research, software development, and reverse engineering. Jack began their career in 2005 as a First Sergeant and Operations Manager for the United States Army. In this role, Jack organized monthly Battle Assemblies, trained non-cyber Soldiers on network defense and attack vectors, and worked with leadership to ensure training and mission completion. Jack then served as a Brigade Military Intelligence Manager, Company Signal Intelligence Platoon Sergeant, and Special Operations Team Sergeant. In 2015, Jack founded Strykersoft, a small startup company that focuses on developing mobile applications. Jack then attended The University of Texas at San Antonio, where they participated in Cyber Security studies and was an active member of the Cyber Security Association's Red Team and Blue Team. In 2018, Jack joined Def-Logix, Inc. as a Tech Lead, Software Developer, Reverse Malware Engineer, and Contractor Security Supervisor. Here, they created a Reverse Engineering of Malware Environment, assisted in setting up a local Cuckoo Sandbox, and wrote custom signatures. In 2019, Jack joined Global InfoTek, Inc. as a Cyber Capability Developer and Malware Reverse Engineer. Jack developed and analyzed Computer Network Operations, constructed complex Cyber Capabilities, reverse engineered malicious software, and created multiple kernel-mode programs. Finally, in 2021 Jack joined Black Lantern Security as a Senior Vulnerability Researcher, where they create tools and provides capabilities. Jack performs analysis on current threats, creates and improves User Interfaces of tools, and provides capabilities for Penetration Testers. Jack possesses a Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance. Jack also has a SAN FOR610 Reverse-Engineering Malware: Malware Analysis Tools and Techniques certification, as well as a GIAC Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM) certification.
Jack Ward has a diverse educational history. Jack attended Judson High School from 1998 to 2002, where they earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) in Spanish Language and Literature from Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center from 2003 to 2005. From 2009 to 2016, they attended Cochise College, studying Military Intelligence, General. Jack then attended The University of Texas at San Antonio from 2016 to 2017, studying Cyber Security. From 2015 to 2018, they attended Microsoft Virtual Academy / Microsoft Learn, studying Universal Windows Platform (UMP). During the same time period, they also attended Udacity, studying Android Development. From 2018 to 2023, they are currently attending SANS Technology Institute, studying Cyber Security. Additionally, they have obtained two certifications: GIAC Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN) from GIAC Certifications in April 2022, and GIAC Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM) from GIAC Certifications in January 2019.
