James Stanier

James Stanier is a Director of Engineering at Shopify since September 2021, focused on enhancing commerce for all. In July 2023, James joined the Advisory Board of LeadDev. Previously, James served as SVP Engineering at Brandwatch from September 2011 to August 2021, contributing significantly from the seed stage to its acquisition by Cision for $450 million. Early career roles include VP Engineering, Head of Analytics, Engineering Manager, and Software Engineer at Brandwatch. Additionally, James edited the ACM's student magazine, XRDS, while serving as Departments Chief, and earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Sussex, where research concentrated on optimizing data-flow compilers. James also holds a BSc in Computer Science from the same institution and completed studies at North East Surrey College of Technology and Sutton Grammar School.
