James Mandel is the Chief Sustainability Officer and Global Head of Decarbonization Programs at Blackstone, where they drive sustainability and climate initiatives to reduce emissions across portfolio companies. Previously, they served as Managing Director of the Carbon-Free Buildings program at Rocky Mountain Institute, focusing on emissions reduction in the US, China, and India. James also worked at McKinsey & Company, managing operations and strategy for energy and high-tech clients. They have a BA in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University and a PhD in Ecology from Cornell University. Additionally, James is a Senior Advisor at WattTime.org, contributing to cleaner energy initiatives.
