Blackwell has been providing structural engineering services to architects, developers, and building owners since 1987. We excel at solving tough problems, achieving architectural vision, and producing efficient structures supported by tight contract documents. Founded by Walter Blackwell, the company is now a partnership of six with 60 employees in four offices: Toronto, Waterloo, Victoria and Halifax. Blackwell provides structural consulting services on projects totaling over $500 million of construction value annually. Under Managing Partner, David Bowick, our principals lead our expert teams, ensuring we have the capacity to carry out a wide range of projects. Our portfolio contains thirty years of work in the new construction of university facilities, offices, retail buildings, medical centres, recreational and visitor centres, schools, libraries and religious institutions, custom homes for private owners, bridges, multi-residential and industrial buildings, as well as in additions and alterations to existing structures, including those with designated heritage status. Many of our staff members are LEED accredited and we have accomplished many notable LEED projects. We’ve been fortunate to work on a number of distinguished projects that have attracted critical and industry acclaim. Several of our projects have received the Governor General’s award and Ontario Association of Architects award for architecture. Many of our award-winning projects have garnered attention for their innovative use of engineered wood, steel, and concrete systems, and we have been recognized on projects notable for their sustainable design. Our mission is beauty through efficient structure.
