Michael Smearman

Michael Smearman has seven years of work experience in the finance and software engineering industries. From 2013 to 2021, they worked at Consolidated Trading as a Trader, where they co-led a team that traded options on the 2 year, 5 year, 10 year, and 30 year US Treasury futures, made markets on option outrights and spreads up to six months away from expiry, co-managed the risk using multiple software tools and risk metrics, established best practices for desk’s electronic trade execution, spearheaded development of new trading tools and appropriate processes for implementing these tools, maintained constant lines of communication with various pit brokers to make markets, execute trades, and track order flow, and trained, supervised, and assigned responsibilities to new team members. During their time at Consolidated Trading, they achieved a positive P/L all seven years, with an average annual return of $5.7 million and an average margin amount of $2.4 million. From 2021 to 2022, they worked at Linked Living as a Software Engineer, and is currently employed at BlockFills as a Software Engineer.

Michael Smearman obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering - Structural Primary and Construction Management Secondary from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2013. Michael then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Chicago in 2021. In 2020, they obtained a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification from the CFA Institute. Michael also holds a Fundamentals of Engineering Certification.
