Ward Lyman is a highly experienced metallurgical engineer with expertise in nickel and aluminum alloys, liquid fuel/oxidizer rocket engine castings, and materials issues across various programs. Currently serving as Principal Metallurgical Engineer at Blue Origin since June 2020, Ward leads qualification and process-related initiatives while interfacing with foundries to maintain quality standards for rocket engines intended for space and human flight. Prior experience includes over 14 years at Raytheon as a Senior Principal Metallurgical Engineer, where Ward managed failure investigations and advanced metallurgical processes. As a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Arizona, Ward developed an innovative immersion-casting technique to reduce oxides in aluminum. Ward's career began in the U.S. Navy as a Navigation Electronics Technician on the USS Michigan. Ward holds both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Arizona.
