George Powers has a diverse work history that spans over 25 years. George began their career in 1996 as an Associate Attorney at Miller Balis & O'Neil, PC. In 1997, they joined Technology and Management Services, Inc (TMS) as a Senior Associate, where they worked until 2008. Following that, they worked as a Manager at National Interest Security Company (NISC) from 2008 to 2010. In 2010, they became a Managing Consultant for IBM, which acquired National Interest Security Company. George worked at IBM until 2014, during which time they were involved in a merger and acquisition. From 2014 to 2019, George was a Program/Project Manager at MIRACORP, Inc., overseeing contracts for the U.S. Department of Energy. George then took on the role of an Instructor at the University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies from 2001 to 2017. In 2020, George worked as a Senior Program Manager for Boston Government Services, LLC (BGS) and later as a Consultant. George returned to BGS in 2021 as a Senior Program Manager, where they managed the Integrated Contract Purchasing Team Basic Ordering Agreement for the U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories. Currently, George is working as a Senior Program Manager at BluePath Labs, a firm certified as both an 8(a) and SDVOSB.
George Powers completed their education as follows:
- From 1976 to 1980, they attended Virginia Tech and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- George then attended The George Washington University Law School from 1992 to 1996 and obtained a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with a focus on Law.
- Additionally, they pursued further education at The George Washington University Law School from 1996 to 2018 and earned a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Environmental Law and Government Contract Law.
In addition to their academic qualifications, George Powers obtained various certifications throughout their career:
- In August 1996, they became a retired Attorney in the State of Maryland.
- In August 1996, they also became a retired Attorney in the State of New Jersey.
- In February 1990, they obtained the Professional Engineer certification from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- In September 1994, they obtained the Professional Engineer certification from the Government of the District of Columbia.
- In June 1990, they obtained the Professional Engineer certification from the State of Maryland.
- In August 2011, they obtained the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute.
- In May 2015, they became a Certified Lean Six Sigma Sensei (CLSSS) from Villanova University.
- Most recently, in June 2020, they obtained the Distinguished Toastmaster certification from Toastmasters International.
