Michael Russell is currently the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors at Bluetooth SIG, a position held since January 2025. With extensive experience at Motorola Mobility (a Lenovo Company) since July 2003, Michael serves as both a Principal Engineer and Principal Staff Engineer, specializing in RF systems engineering, particularly in the integration of Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, and GPS technologies within mobile devices. For the past six years, Michael has led RF and antenna development for wearable products, including MotoACTV and Moto360 (1st and 2nd Gen). Previous experience includes serving as a Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from January 2002 to June 2003, where work focused on digital signal processing and power reduction algorithms, and internships at Tellabs, Inc., involving software and hardware development. Michael holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, completed between 1998 and 2003.
