Drew Hendrickson has a diverse work experience in various scientific research roles. In 2018, Drew worked as a Research Assistant in the Coates Lab, investigating methods to inhibit sulfidogenesis in anaerobic chemoorganotrophic bacteria. They also conducted research in the PMB 104L course on Microbial Molecular Genetics, focusing on an unknown gene annotation in Caulabacter crescentus.
In 2017, Drew worked as a Research Assistant in the Terry Lab, where they conducted soil bioremediation research at a former Shell-refinery contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and heavy metals. They conducted mass spectrometry analysis to measure how consortia of bacteria from native plants can degrade crude oil.
Drew also served as a Leader in the UNITY Queer Resource Center, where they supported the queer community and established the center as a Registered Student Organization. They led a group of student-interns in organizing events and educating the Berkeley community on identity exploration and resource accessibility.
Currently, Drew is the Head of Organism Discovery and Assay Development at BLUUMBIO and started their role in November 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Biological Research Associate in the Arkin Lab at Berkeley Lab from 2019 to 2021.
Overall, Drew has demonstrated a strong background in scientific research, with a focus on genetics, microbiology, and bioremediation. They have also gained leadership experience supporting diverse communities and organizing events.
Drew Hendrickson completed their Bachelor of Science with Honors in Microbial Biology, with a concentration in Ecology and Environmental Microbiology, at the University of California, Berkeley from 2015 to 2019. During the same period, they also obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Biology and had a minor in Dance and Performance Studies. In 2018, Drew participated in the Pembroke/King's College Summer Programme at the University of Cambridge.
Before attending the University of California, Berkeley, Drew Hendrickson attended Annandale High School from 2011 to 2015, where they earned an International Baccalaureate Diploma with a focus on STEM subjects.
Additionally, Drew Hendrickson has obtained various certifications. They completed the "6.419x: Data Analysis: Statistical Modeling and Computation in Applications" program from the MITx MicroMasters® Programs at MIT in June 2021. In April 2021, they also completed the "7.QBWx: Quantitative Biology Workshop" from MITx on edX. In May 2020, they achieved certifications in "6.431x: Probability-The Science of Uncertainty and Data" and "6.86x: Machine Learning with Python-From Linear Models to Deep Learning" from the MITx MicroMasters® Programs. Prior to that, in December 2019, they completed the "14.310Fx: Data Analysis in Social Science-Assessing Your Knowledge" and "18.6501x: Fundamentals of Statistics" programs from the MITx MicroMasters® Programs. Finally, in August 2019, Drew completed the "ALGS200x: Algorithmic Design and Techniques" certification from UCSanDiegoX.
