Mackenzie Schmaltz has a diverse range of work experience in the fashion industry. Mackenzie began their career as a Fashion Archivist Assistant at the Grand Rapids Public Museum in 2017, where they assisted with preserving and organizing fashion artifacts. Mackenzie then transitioned to a Fashion Intern role at Conscious Clothing in 2018, gaining hands-on experience in the industry. In 2019, they worked as a Design and Production Coordinator Intern at Maryam Nassir Zadeh, where they assisted with coordinating design and production processes. Mackenzie also gained experience as a Design and Development Assistant at VINCETTA, contributing to the design and development of clothing. Most recently, Mackenzie worked as a Studio Team Manager and head of OOAK & Custom Projects at Bode, showcasing their leadership skills and expertise in managing projects. Throughout their career, they have also held the role of Teaching Assistant and Sewing Lab Technician at Kendall College of Art and Design, demonstrating their passion for fashion education.

Mackenzie Schmaltz studied fashion/apparel design at several institutions. In 2014, they enrolled at Kendall College of Art and Design and completed their Bachelor's Degree in the same field in 2018. Later in 2018, they attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, where they acquired an Associate of Arts and Sciences - AAS degree in fashion/apparel design. Additionally, they also pursued studies at Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London, but the duration and degree obtained are unspecified.
