Jef Richards

Jef Richards is an accomplished photojournalist and educator, currently serving as a Photojournalist for The Indianapolis Star since May 2022, where responsibilities include photographing significant events such as the Indianapolis 500. Jef has held various academic positions, including Professor and Department Chair at Michigan State University since January 2011 and previously at The University of Texas at Austin from 1988 to 2010. Jef's extensive experience in photography includes roles as a Staff Photographer at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Photographic Stringer for United Press International, emphasizing documentation of major racing events. Jef's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a J.D. from Indiana University Bloomington, and a B.S. in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology.
