Christopher Horrell

Christopher Horrell is a seasoned marine archaeologist with extensive experience in underwater archaeology and historic preservation. Currently serving as a Marine Archaeologist at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management since October 2021, Horrell also holds the position of President at the Submerged Archaeological Conservancy International and works as a Research Fellow and National Geographic Explorer focusing on the Lost Ships of Cortés Project, supported by the National Geographic Society. Previous roles include Federal Preservation Officer/Senior Marine Archaeologist at the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement and Senior Marine Archaeologist at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, along with earlier experience as an Underwater Archaeologist with the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research and a contract Archaeologist for the State of Texas. Horrell holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology and Underwater Archaeology from Florida State University, along with a Master's degree in Anthropology and Archaeology from The University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Colonial History and Anthropology from Texas State University.
