Maarten Soomer

Maarten Soomer is an accomplished data science professional with extensive experience in academia and the e-commerce sector. Currently serving as the Lead Data Scientist for Search at bol since September 2025, Maarten also holds the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam, where lecturing and research focus on Data Science applications in E-commerce and Online Marketing for Master Econometrics and MBA students. Prior roles include Lead Data Scientist at Travix International, where management of the Data Science team was a key responsibility, and significant contributions as a Principal Consultant in Marketing & Pricing Analytics at ORTEC. Maarten completed a PhD in Operations Research at VU University, complemented by a Master of Science in Business Mathematics and Informatics from the same institution.
