Leigh-Ann Booth has a diverse work experience in various scientific and healthcare settings. Leigh-Ann is currently working as a Medical Writer at BOLDSCIENCE since January 2022. Prior to this, Leigh-Ann was a PHD Student at the University of St Andrews from September 2017 to May 2022. Their research focused on characterizing the enzymes of the Kennedy Pathway in Trypanosoma cruzi, involving cell culture, metabolomics, mass spectrometry, and enzyme characterization.
Leigh-Ann also worked as a Clinical Trial Diagnostician at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London, for a brief period in June 2017, where they performed RT-qPCR on conjunctival swabs to determine the prevalence of ocular chlamydia in children.
Furthermore, they were a PHE Ebola response diagnostician at Public Health England from July 2015 to December 2015. In this role, Leigh-Ann performed RT-qPCR diagnostic assays on blood or buccal samples for patient diagnosis. Leigh-Ann gained experience in working with a category 4 pathogen, operating flexible-film isolators, and analyzing blood biochemistry read-outs.
Leigh-Ann's work experience also includes a placement at GSK as a Biopharm discovery unit student from June 2014 to June 2015. During this time, they purified and characterized antibody-based therapeutics, prepared them for in vivo PBPK modeling studies, and evaluated their binding to antibody targets.
Overall, Leigh-Ann Booth has gained expertise in molecular biology, enzymology, clinical diagnostics, and biopharmaceutical research through their work experiences.
Leigh-Ann Booth obtained their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biochemistry from Royal Holloway, University of London, from 2011 to 2015. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Medical Parasitology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London, from 2016 to 2017. Currently, Leigh-Ann is undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Biochemistry at the University of St Andrews, starting from 2017 and expected to finish in 2022.
