Joel Earle

Joel Earle is a seasoned expert in Japanese art, currently serving as a Senior Consultant for Japanese Art at Bonhams & Butterfields since September 2012. Prior to this role, Joel directed the Japan Society Gallery from September 2007 to September 2012 and chaired the Department of Art of Asia, Oceania, and Africa at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston from August 2003 to July 2007. Joel's early career included a position as Keeper of the Far Eastern Department at the Victoria and Albert Museum from 1983 to 1987. An alumnus of the University of Oxford, Joel earned a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from 1971 to 1974, following education at Westminster School from 1966 to 1970.
