Stephan Roest has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and industries. Stephan has held various roles, starting in 2004 as a co-founder and entrepreneur of a bathroom design brand called 20h30. From there, they worked as a university researcher and quarter master in China, establishing a new MSc exchange program.

Roest also worked as an interim chemical engineer at Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals, where they were involved in process improvements and validation for pharmaceutical biotechnology production. Stephan later joined Koning & Hartman as a technology consultant, providing expertise in technology solutions.

In 2008, Roest started their career at PwC Nederland as a consultant in sustainability and climate change. Stephan advised clients on sustainability strategies, supply chain trade tracking, and environmental regulations. Stephan then became a manager in the Sustainability and Responsible Governance group, focusing on the chemical industry.

Roest also has experience in the bioplastics industry, serving as a board member for Holland Bioplastics and holding strategic partnerships and business development roles at Corbion. In these positions, they attracted biotechnology companies for partnership and scale-up opportunities.

Stephan has also been involved in the arts and culture sector, serving as a member of the supervisory board for Scholen in de Kunst and as a member trainee of the supervisory board for HVO Querido, a healthcare institution.

Currently, Roest is with Borealis, where they have held various roles related to circular economy solutions. Stephan is currently the Head of Circular Economy Business Development, leading strategic platforms and initiatives related to chemical recycling of polyolefins and circular plastics.

Throughout their career, Roest has demonstrated a strong interest and expertise in sustainability, innovation, and strategic partnership development.

Stephan Roest obtained a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht in 2003. Stephan then pursued a Master of Science in Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management from Delft University of Technology from 2003 to 2006. In 2012, Stephan completed an Executive MBA in General Management from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. Stephan also participated in MBA Residential Programs in 2012 at GIBS Business School and in 2013 at CUHK Business School. In 2018, Stephan attended the Strategic Partnerships program at IMD and the Corporate Governance program at Blikverruimers. Stephan further enhanced their skills by completing the Leadership Essentials program at IMD in 2023. Additionally, Stephan has certifications as a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belt and Prince II Foundation, but there is no information available regarding the institutions or specific dates of obtaining these certifications. Stephan has also taken Spanish Language Courses at Molinos de Viento, though no start or end years are provided.
