Founded in 2020 by Dr Mohd Zulkifli Mustafa, a neuroscience lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Brainey Sdn Bhd is USM’s spin-off company developed under the university’s community project. Brainey’s utmost mission is to create a sustainable economic ecosystem rooted in Kelulunomic, a socioeconomic model centred on Kelulut-based economic activities. Under Kelulunomic, stingless bee hives are provided to villagers, who then harvest & extract honey to generate income. Simultaneously, the stingless bees collect pollen from surrounding trees, supporting environmental sustainability, biodiversity, & food security. This integrated chain fosters shared benefits for all – forests are preserved, bees are conserved, villagers gain income along with consumers & researchers receive high-quality honey for consumption & research purposes, respectively. Located at USM, the Advanced National Honey Landmark (AnNaHL) serves as a translational centre for the honey industry. It advances on GMP certification for bee product factories, conducts research, educates university students, & promotes honey as a new commodity for the international market to bolster the country’s economy.

Brainey focuses on Kelulut Brainey, a premium honey produced by stingless Kelulut bees that forage freely within a 700m radius. Kelulut Brainey is sustainably produced with several patented innovations, namely the MUSTAFA Hive for sustainable beekeeping, the HILDA System for post-harvest fermentation inhibition & the KEIFh System to ensure Kelulut honey’s authenticity & freshness, along with boasting a production plant with international certifications (GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000, Halal & MeSTI). Kelulut Brainey has been extensively researched at USM for its use as an energy supplement, wound healing, & the treatment of stroke & depression. Its uniqueness lies in low-GI trehalulose sugar & a plethora of health benefits, including antibacterial & anti-inflammatory properties.
