Simon Nielsen

Director of Research & Innovation at Brain+

Simon Nielsen is the current Director of Research & Innovation at Brain+. Prior to this, they were with Coloplast as a Team Manager and Senior Scientist from September 2015 to October 2019. There, they were responsible for heading up a pre-clinical R&D team of 8 scientists and lab techs developing methods for pre-clinical development of early stage innovation track technologies. Nielsen was also responsible for developing key scientific area and methods to support innovation track, and early phase tech evaluation.

Before Coloplast, Nielsen worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Copenhagen from October 2012 to September 2015. There, their research focused on experimental research on early visual processes and the influence of attention on high level visual perception and short term memory. Simon also had applied interests in how normal ageing influence these processes, and the factors accounting for individual differences. Nielsen approached their research with a strong quantitative approach, using psychophysical and electrophysiological recordings in pre-clinical and experimental settings, mathematical modelling and confirmatory and explorative statistical analysis models, including structural equation modelling (SEM).

Prior to their time at the University of Copenhagen, Nielsen was a Visiting PHD Fellow at UC Santa Barbara from January 2012 to April 2012.

Simon Nielsen has a Master of Science in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, a PhD in Cognitive Science from the Technical University of Denmark, and a Bachelor of Science in Informatics from the University of Technology Sydney. Simon also has a Bachelor of Science in Informatics from the Engineering College of Aarhus and a Bachelor of Science in Informatics from the University of New South Wales.

Their manager is Kim Baden-Kristensen, CEO & Co-Founder. They work with Pernille Hansen - Animator, Bertil Stengaard Jessen - CFO, and Paula Petcu - Chief Technology Officer.
