BRAKE Driver Awareness Limited is an Australian not for profit organisation dedicated to preventing serious injury and death on our roads by preparing young people before they start driving.

Road trauma remains the leading cause of death for young Australians aged 16 to 25. Young people are disproportionately at risk due to inexperience, peer influence, risk taking and the way decisions are made under pressure. BRAKE exists to address these factors early, before unsafe habits form.

BRAKE delivers an evidence based, school delivered education program that focuses on attitudes, behaviours and decision making rather than rules alone. Students learn how to recognise risk early, manage attention and emotions, resist peer pressure, plan ahead and take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.

The core BRAKE program is delivered over six structured modules and is taught by regular classroom teachers as part of the school timetable. This approach allows learning to be reinforced over time, supports whole school wellbeing priorities and ensures the program can be delivered consistently at scale.

BRAKE is practical, cost effective and measurable. Every student completes pre and post learning evaluations that assess changes in attitudes, safety awareness and behavioural intentions. This data is used to continually refine the program and demonstrate impact.

To date, BRAKE has reached more than 80,000 students across over 180 Australian schools, supported by hundreds of teachers. With the right support from government, schools and partners, BRAKE is ready to reach every young Australian.
