John Burgess is a highly experienced sustainability scientist with over three decades in the field, currently serving in a senior role at BRANZ since November 1990, focusing on environmental sustainability in the residential built environment, specifically in areas such as energy, potable water, waste, indoor environmental quality, and construction materials. Previously, John held the position of senior scientist within the Building Performance team, specializing in weathertightness assessments for both domestic and commercial buildings. Additionally, John contributed as a board member at tranzsend for a decade and worked on the development of domestic window energy performance rating systems at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. John's expertise in weathertightness test methods was further enhanced during a secondment at the Building Research Establishment. Academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Physics and Biophysics from Massey University and a Bachelor of Applied Theology in Missiology from Carey College.
