TORONTO -- The Ontario government is introducing legislation that would give police and prosecutors more tools to crack down on human trafficking.

The proposed law would amend the Criminal Code to make it easier to prosecute traffickers and give police more powers to investigate cases.

It would also allow for the seizure of proceeds of crime and the forfeiture of property used in trafficking.

The legislation would also create a new offence of advertising sexual services of a person under 18.

The proposed law would also allow for the creation of a new court system to handle human trafficking cases.

The government says the new court would provide victims with more support, including access to specialized services such as counselling and legal advice.
