Bob Smith has a long and varied work experience. In 2020, they began their current role as Director of I-Corps at GW, part of the management team at the DC I-Corps Node and developing GWOIE's International Lean Startup Education program. From 2006 to 2012, they were Chairman and Co-Founder of Bright Hub, Inc./CollegeFactual.com, a publisher of CollegeFactual.com, and from 2012 to 2017, they were President of The Estimating Department, providing personalized startup mentoring, angel investing and digital innovation services. In 2017, they became Director of Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP) and from 2016 to 2015, they were Director of Mason Small Business Development Center at George Mason University. From 2010 to 2006, they were Board Member of GeoIQ, sold to ESRI in July 2012, and from 2006 to 2002, they were CEO and Co-Founder of iBelong Networks, Inc. and Board Member of ezGov, Inc. from 1999 to 2002. Bob was also Chairman of Map Network, Inc. from 2002 to 2006.

Bob Smith received their MBA from The George Washington University School of Business in 1988, with a focus in Marketing, Advertising, and Entrepreneurship. Bob had previously earned their BA in Political Science from the University of Southern California in 1979.
