Roger Root

Roger Root has over 25 years of work experience in the actuarial field. Roger currently works at Brighthouse Financial as a Director & Actuary, where they design and implements annuity modeling solutions. Roger provides training and guidance to the modeling team and promotes a culture of continuous improvement.

Prior to their current role, Roger worked at Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated as a Director & Actuary. There, they modeled company-wide balance sheets and income statements, focusing on asset modeling, data flows, and process automation. Roger also partnered with Information Technology to develop comprehensive modeling solutions.

Before that, Roger worked at Ernst & Young as a Senior Manager. Roger developed audit innovation techniques and managed transformation projects to the Prophet actuarial system. Roger also led model validation projects for life insurance products.

Roger also has experience at PolySystems, Inc., Transamerica, MetLife, Nationwide Financial, Midland Life Insurance Company, William M. Mercer, Inc., and Central Benefits. Their roles at these companies involved various actuarial responsibilities, such as advanced modeling, asset/liability modeling, asset adequacy testing, and valuations of insurance and pension plans.

Roger Root has a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Michigan State University, which they obtained from 1989 to 1993. Later, from 2014 to 2016, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree at Villanova University. In 2009, they completed a Fellowship program at the Society of Actuaries and also obtained a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst certification from the same institution. More recently, in 2018, they completed a Predictive Analytics Certificate program at the Society of Actuaries.
