Lela Mae Wilkes, owner and chief executive operator, joined Brown Eagle as the controller in 1977 and quickly became an integral part of the company’s management team. Wilkes was promoted to vice president in 1983 and president in 1987. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Wilkes was responsible for growing Brown Eagle to more than 500 employees with concurrent projects in Louisiana, Texas, Alabama and Kentucky.
