The Brown Investment Group is Brown’s premier student-run investment fund. Founded in 2002, the Brown Investment Group is the largest and oldest investment club on campus. 

We are dedicated to both teaching and practicing the principles of investing. We are composed of a highly selective research committee of 35 students and general body of over 300 students. 

We manage two separate funds — a Core (long-only) fund with $400K AUM (est. in 2002), and our newly-founded Long/Short fund with $100K AUM, generously donated by Steven A. Cohen in 2023. The Long/Short Fund is the first ever student-run, university-endorsed long/short fund.

The Brown Investment Group’s two differing funds provide great flexibility in investment theses, with the value-focused mandate of the Core Fund, and the flexible mandate of the Long/Short Fund.

The Research Team at Brown Investment Group is responsible for conducting in-depth market analysis and generating investment recommendations for both the Core and Long/Short funds. Comprised of a select group of analysts, they evaluate financial statements, perform industry analysis, and model potential investment opportunities to guide the club’s investment decisions. Their rigorous research underpins the club’s strategic investment initiatives and educational mission.

Research Team

The Investment and Trading Analysis team at Brown Investment Group oversees comprehensive market research and performance monitoring for both the Core and Long/Short funds. The team consists of specialized roles such as Sector Heads and Analysts who meticulously analyze market trends, evaluate investment opportunities, and develop quantitative trading strategies to optimize fund performance. Their expertise and insights guide the investment decisions, ensuring adherence to the funds' respective mandates.
