Originating in 2009, BSides was created to foster dialogue and collaboration among security professionals in a more intimate setting than larger industry conferences. Just like other BSides chapters around the world, BSides Joburg is an annual volunteer-run, community organized event focused on providing a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas in cybersecurity, promoting education, networking, and collaboration among professionals and enthusiasts. Each event typically features technical presentations, workshops, and opportunities for networking, making the event valuable for both seasoned professionals and newcomers to the field of information security.
