Ian Walmsley

Ian Walmsley has extensive experience in cybersecurity, currently serving as the Head of Security Policy, Compliance, Governance and Assurance at BT Group since June 2003. In this role, Ian leads initiatives to enhance BT’s cyber defense by integrating advanced security controls with business operations and implementing a Secure in Operation framework. Previously, Ian held several senior managerial positions at BT, focusing on strategic security policy development, compliance, and governance. Ian successfully transformed the company's security policies to achieve ISO 27001 accreditation and played a crucial role in managing cybersecurity risks, overseeing vulnerability management, and leading incident response teams. Ian's career at BT began with an industrial placement as a Software Engineer. Ian holds a BSc (Hons.) in Computing, Computer Science from The Manchester Metropolitan University.
