Jay Paul has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Jay started their career in 1986 as a District Representative for Congressman Thomas J. Bliley Jr. in Virginia. Following this, in 1988, they became the Vice President of Insurance and Risk Management Services at DeJarnette & Paul, an insurance agency that was later acquired by BB&T Insurance Services in 1999. From 2012 to 2014, they served as the Managing Director of Balance For Cyclists, where they worked on creating a unique bicyclist accident insurance coverage. Jay then joined RCM&D as a Senior Risk Consultant from 2014 to 2018, where they collaborated with corporate and association clients to develop customized insurance programs. In 2018, they co-founded Buddy Technology, Inc., a company that offers a low code technology platform for the distribution of insurance products. Jay also participated in the Techstars Insurtech class of 2018, where they spent three months at the MetLife Technology Center.

Jay Paul attended Elon University from 1980 to 1984, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History/Political Science. Following that, they enrolled at Virginia Tech from 1984 to 1986, obtaining a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration.
