David Arroyo

David Arroyo is currently the VP, Associate General Counsel at BuzzFeed. Prior to this, they served as the Senior Vice President, Global Head of Compliance at Discovery Inc from March 2018 to July 2019, following their acquisition of Scripps Networks Interactive. Before that, they were with Scripps Networks Interactive for 14 years, from January 2004 to December 2018, serving as their Senior Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs and Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer. In this role, they established the first formal ethics and compliance program at the company, hiring key personnel, overseeing risk and gap assessments, documenting controls, launching new training and awareness programs, and chairing the compliance committee. David also continued to lead the teams responsible for litigation, intellectual property (trademark, copyright and patent), government affairs, privacy and data security, broadcast and digital operations support (including all software and IT contracting), ratings and consumer research (e.g., agreements with Nielsen, comScore, etc.), labor and employment, and real estate. Once the Discovery - Scripps merger was announced, they were appointed to the integration team, and their specific responsibilities included securing antitrust approval in the U.S. and day-one readiness for the combination of the legal and compliance functions post-close.

David Arroyo's educational career includes a J.D. from University of Michigan Law School, an A.B. in Political Science and Public Policy from Duke University, and executive management training from Harvard Business School Executive Education and the UCLA Anderson School of Management. David is also a graduate of Stuyvesant High School.
