Ruan van der Merwe

Ruan van der Merwe is a co-founder and technical lead at ByteFuse AI, responsible for overseeing technical project aspects and maintaining the integrity and quality of solutions and research since April 2021. Previously, Ruan worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at Alphawave, focusing on emerging ML and AI trends, particularly in Deep Learning applications. As a co-founder and CEO of MiiPets, Ruan provided a comprehensive solution for pet owners before the venture closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ruan's earlier experience at Vodacom involved being a Full Stack Data Scientist in the Core Network Performance department, where Ruan applied data science skills to enhance customer experience. Ruan holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Data Science, respectively, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Stellenbosch University.
