John Surma

Controller / Director of Finance at Calient Technologies

John Surma has held various positions in the finance and accounting field since 2001. John began their career as a Cost & Inventory/Budget & Planning/Operations Finance at Intel Corporation, where they managed and performed monthly and quarterly close, quarterly and annual budget process for a division with a $150M annual spending plan and 600 employees. John also prepared financial models and variance analysis to assist management in making resourcing and product line decisions. In 2005, they worked as a Consultant for Resources Global Professionals. From 2006 to 2010, they were the Controller for ServerEngines Corp, where they managed all aspects of finance, accounting, human resources, facilities, cap table and administration. John also drove immediate cash savings of ~$200K, increasing to ~$600K, through CAD software contract restructuring. In 2010, they were the Accounting Manager for Emulex Corp, where they were responsible for integration, accounting, finance, fixed asset and budget-related activities during and after its acquisition of ServerEngines Corp. In 2012, they were the Accounting Manager for OCZ Technology (OCZ), where they were responsible for management and accounting for ASIC and R&D development and product prototype contracts & expenses, and cost of sales, as well as inventory movement and costing, and related reserves calculations. John investigated and discovered stale, obsolete, and over-valued inventories, resulting in company recognition of significant inventory valuation issues and the related disclosures. In 2013, they worked as a Consultant for Various. From 2014 to 2015, they were the Senior International Accounting Manager for Corsair Memory, Inc. and the Controller/Operations Manager for Moxtreme Corp. Currently, they are the Controller/Director of Finance for CALIENT Technologies Inc., where they are responsible for the accounting system migration from JDE to QuickBooks Enterprise, management close, banking, finance/accounting management, budgeting and business modeling, systems integrity, internal/external reporting, and more.

John Surma obtained a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Santa Clara University. John also holds a Certified Public Accountant certification from the CA State Board of Accountancy.
