Kate Looby

Kate Looby has a long history of work experience, beginning with owning and operating a Maaco Auto Painting & Bodyworks franchise from 1997 to 2003. From 2003 to 2010, they served as the South Dakota State Director for Planned Parenthood North Central States, leading public affairs efforts and developing legislative strategic planning initiatives. Kate also served as a full-time lobbyist to the South Dakota legislature, fostered media relations and served as a spokesperson. In 2002, they ran as the Democratic Party's candidate for statewide Secretary of State, raising four times the campaign contributions previously raised for a Secretary of State race in South Dakota. From 2010 to 2020, they were the Senior Managing Director of Major Gifts, West, Advancement Director, Western Region, and Chapter Director at the Sierra Club. Since 2020, they have been the Chief Development Officer at Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting, and since 2021, they have been the Chief Development Officer at CalMatters.

Kate Looby received their MBA from Pepperdine Graziadio Business School in 1988 and their BA in Economics from Augustana University (SD) in 1987.
