John Shipley

John Shipley is a Senior Litigation Attorney at CalSTRS, having joined the organization in August 2023. Prior roles include Deputy Legislative Counsel for the Office of Legislative Counsel State of California, and Senior Staff Attorney at CalPERS. Shipley has extensive experience in litigation, specializing in commercial and construction disputes, with prior positions at Murphy Austin Adams Schoenfeld LLP and McDonough Holland & Allen PC. Academic credentials include an MBA in Accounting and Finance from the University of California, Davis, and a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings). Additionally, Shipley holds a BA in Economics from the University of Chicago and taught English and international culture in Japan through the JET Program.
