Jonathon Bell has over 30 years of work experience in the software engineering field. Jonathon currently holds the position of Principal Software Engineer at Cambridge Semantics Inc., where they have been working since 2018. Prior to this, they worked at InterSystems as a Software Developer from 2015 to 2018.

Before joining InterSystems, Jonathon worked at Paradigm4 as a Principle Software Engineer and Language Specialist from 2013 to 2015. Their responsibilities included streamlining the implementation of query languages, designing a memory management library, and implementing a distributed General Linear Model operator.

From 2007 to 2013, Jonathon was a Principal Software Engineer at The MathWorks. During their time there, they implemented the MATLAB execution engine, incorporating a state-of-the-art JIT compiler.

Jonathon also worked at Mathsoft Engineering & Education, Inc. as a Principal Software Engineer from 2000 to 2007. Here, they architected the Mathcad calculation engine, which is used by scientists and engineers for mathematical evaluations.

In 1999, Jonathon worked at Harmonix Music Systems as a Senior Software Engineer, where they prototyped the 3D graphics for the game "FreQ", which later became "Guitar Hero".

Their earlier work experience includes roles as a Senior Technical Consultant at Datastream International from 1997 to 1999, a Senior Software Engineer at Monitor Company from 1993 to 1997, a Senior Software Engineer at Epsilon Data Management Inc. from 1991 to 1993, and a Software Engineer at The Multimedia Corporation in 1990.

Jonathon Bell attended the University of Oxford from 1984 to 1987, where they obtained a BA Hons degree in Mathematics. In 1988, they enrolled at Berklee College of Music and completed a 2-year Certificate program in Jazz Guitar Performance, which they finished in 1990.
