Derek Stemple

Derek Stemple is a co-founder, advisor, and investor at Camena Bioscience since 2016. Derek previously worked as a Senior Investigator at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Before that, they were a Group Leader at the National Institute for Medical Research from 1997 to 2003 and also served as a Group Leader for the Medical Research Council UK during the same period. Derek started their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital from 1992 to 1997.

Derek Stemple obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado Boulder from 1980 to 1984. Derek studied Applied Mathematics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology during this time. Following their undergraduate studies, Derek pursued a Ph.D. in Biology at Caltech from 1986 to 1992.
