John Chen

President & CEO at Camvi Technologies

John Chen is the current President & CEO at Camvi Technologies. Prior to Camvi Technologies, Chen served as the Assistant General Counsel at Yahoo from January 2006 to December 2016. At Yahoo, Chen grew the Yahoo! Search and Cloud Computing patent portfolio from early stage to $600M+ in monetization of portions of the patent portfolio. In 2014, Chen received the Yahoo! Superstar award.

From January 2004 to December 2006, Chen served as the Director of Engineering - Yahoo! Search. During their time as Director of Engineering, Chen led a team of engineers for the improvement of Search relevance evaluation and Search business intelligence infrastructure that enabled rapid innovation at Yahoo! Search.

Prior to their time at Yahoo, Chen was a founding team member at Sage-N Research, Inc. from January 2002 to December 2003. While at Sage-N Research, Inc., Chen coded the first production version of the company’s high-throughput data analysis software for mass spectrometry in proteomics.

Chen began their career as a software engineer at SPSS (acquired by IBM) from January 1997 to December 2000. John then went on to work as a staff engineer at Applied Biosystems (acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific) from January 2000 to December 2004.

John Chen has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University, a Master's in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University, a JD in Intellectual Property Law from Santa Clara University, a Master's in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering from the University of Minnesota. John is certified as a Licensed Attorney by the State Bar of California and as a Licensed Patent Attorney by the USPTO.
