Nancy Carter has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Nancy began their career in 1997 at CANARIE, where they held various finance roles for ten years. In 2007, they became the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for financial integrity and governance of the organization. In 2022, Nancy assumed the position of Vice President for Legal and Corporate Governance at CANARIE.
Alongside their work at CANARIE, Nancy has also been actively involved in other organizations. Since 2018, they have served as a Member of the Board of Trustees at ARIN, where they have chaired the Finance Committee and served on other committees. Nancy has also been a part of the Finance Committee, Compensation Committee, and Governance Committee at ARIN.
Additionally, Nancy has contributed to the Ontario Genomics organization as a member of the Board of Directors. From 2014 to 2018, they served on the Board of Directors, Treasurer, and Vice-President roles at the Internet Society Canada Chapter.

Nancy Carter's education history includes several degrees and certificates. In 1976, they obtained a Business Diploma in Accounting from Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology. In 1992, they completed a degree in Financial Management from the same college. Nancy then pursued a CGA degree in accounting from the University of Ottawa, which they attained in 1997. Later, from 2005 to 2012, they pursued a JD degree with a specialization in Law and Technology from the University of Ottawa. In 2023, Nancy completed the ICD-Rotman NFP Program from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Additionally, they received an ESG Certificate from Competent Boards that same year. Finally, Nancy enrolled in the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program from the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2023.
