Ben Akroyd has worked for a variety of companies since 2009. From 2009-2011, they were an Assistant Director for the Fund for Public Interest Research. In 2010, they served as the Campaign Manager for Judge Bob Hunter for NC Supreme Court. From 2011-2013, they were the Communications Coordinator and then Assistant Director of Communications for The Arc of North Carolina. During this time, they also worked part-time as a Web Developer/Organizer for Richir Outreach. From 2016-present, they have been employed by CandleScience, first as a Senior Software Engineer, then as a Tech Lead for the Customer Experience Team, Deputy Tech Lead, and Web Developer. Additionally, they have worked part-time as an Instructor and Teaching Assistant for Tech Talent South since 2016.

Ben Akroyd obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from North Carolina State University between 2001 and 2006. Ben then completed a Ruby on Rails Development course at Tech Talent South in 2015. Ben also obtained a Full Stack Web Development Certification from Free Code Camp in 2015. Ben Akroyd has continued their education with ongoing web design/development education from Lynda.com and ongoing computer science courses from North Carolina State University. Ben has obtained additional certifications in Python Data Structures, Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python), Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012, SQL Essential Training, and SQL Server: Triggers, Stored Procedures, and Functions from Coursera Course Certificates and Lynda.com.
