Chief Executive, APAC at Canopius

Mark Newman is the current Chief Executive of APAC at Canopius. Prior to this, they were with XL Catlin for eight years, where they served as Head of Asia and Deputy CEO Asia Pacific.

Mark has over 30 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance sector. Mark began their career as a carrier before moving into brokerage. For the last 16 years, they have been based in Asia.

Under Mark's leadership, the team at XL Catlin achieved nine-fold growth. Mark was focused on profitability and achieving the "step change" required by the Group CEO. Mark grew the profile of XL Catlin to make it a leading go-to carrier in the region, known for its excellence in underwriting and claims. Mark expanded the company's geographical footprint and attracted and retained the best talent by creating a positive corporate culture.

Mark is a key note speaker at selected regional events and panel discussions, and a regular contributor to thought leadership forums.

Mark Newman graduated from the Protege School, where they studied board governance and non-executive director best practice. Mark then attended the Financial Times Non Executive Director Programme at the Forest School in London, England. There, they studied strategic management and leadership. Finally, they attended the Singapore Institute of Management, where they studied strategic management and leadership.

Mark Newman works with Sarah Willmont - Chief Executive, UK, Barbara Turner - Chief HR Officer, and Lisa Davis - Chief Executive, US & Bermuda. Their manager is Neil Robertson, Group CEO.
