Tom Ryan

Tom Ryan is an accomplished engineering manager at Canva since December 2025, with a robust background in software engineering and cloud technologies. Prior experience includes over a decade at Appian in various leadership roles, such as Principal Software Engineer and Group Technical Lead, where Tom contributed to critical cloud connectivity features and the migration to a Kubernetes-native architecture. Earlier positions at Appian also included roles focused on the Cloud Developer Experience and Customer Environment Management. Tom's career began with software development and IT risk management at Macquarie Group, accompanied by leadership experience as Deputy CTO at 180 Degrees Consulting. Tom holds a dual degree in Bachelor of IT (Computer Science) and Bachelor of Arts (English) from the University of Sydney.
