Matthew Cooper

Matthew Cooper is the General Counsel, Corporate Secretary & Head of ESG at Capital One. Prior to joining Capital One, they were the SVP, Deputy General Counsel at Genworth from May 2004 to January 2009. Before that, they were VP, General Counsel, Long Term Care at GE Capital from June 2001 to May 2004.

From September 2000 to June 2001, they worked as Commercial Litigation at McGuireWoods LLP. From August 1997 to September 2000, they worked as Commercial Litigation at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP.

From August 1996 to August 1997, they served as Judicial Law Clerk to David M. Ebel at the US Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit.

Matthew Cooper attended the University of Virginia School of Law, where they earned their JD. Prior to that, they completed their BA in Government and Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia.
