Chief Geologist at Capstone Copper

James Adu has extensive work experience in the field of geology and mining. James has held various roles in different companies throughout their career.

In their most recent role as Chief Geologist at Capstone Copper since 2023, James is responsible for overseeing geological operations and providing expertise in exploration and resource modeling.

Prior to this, James worked at ASARCO from 2021 to 2023, where they served as a Senior Geologist. In this role, they managed the geology department and was involved in exploration, resource modeling, mine geology, and geotechnical engineering. James played a key role in exploring for sulfide ore and improving ore recovery through effective ore control practices.

From 2017 to 2021, James worked at Kinross Gold Corporation, where they held different positions. As a Senior Geologist in Geotechnical Engineering, they were responsible for monitoring the stability of various mining structures and managing consultants for developing geotechnical models. In their role as a Senior Geologist in Ore Control & Slope Stability, they supervised a team of mine geologists and implemented strategies to optimize ore control, mapping, and slope stability for a gold deposit.

Prior to this, James has worked at several other companies including Freeport-McMoRan, Newmont Corporation, Barrick Gold Corporation, Rudnic Company Ltd (Takoradi Limited), Moydow Mines International Inc., Blue Cross Exploration, and AngloGold Ashanti. In these roles, they have gained experience in geological modeling, resource estimation, exploration project planning, and supervision.

James Adu has a strong education background in the field of engineering and business. James obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Geological Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2004. James then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Mineral Engineering with a specialization in Economic Geology from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, which they completed in 2012.

In 2022, James completed an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program with a focus on Finance, Statistical Analysis, and Inference from Quantic School of Business and Technology. Additionally, they hold several certifications, including Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) from the American Institute of Professional Geologists and Registered Member (RM) from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME).
