Head, Engineering at Captiv8

Dave Hampton is the current head of engineering at Captiv8. Prior to this, they held the position of director of engineering at Appetize from September 2019 to January 2021. In this role, they managed five mobile applications in both Android and KDS, as well as configuration and a front-facing suite of Microservices. Dave also oversaw a team of 50-200 full-time employees and contractors, depending on development needs.

Since joining Appetize, Dave has implemented standardized version control, versioning, CI, build, and deploy processes for multiple products. Dave also launched a refactoring of the company's largest codebase with an emphasis on looser coupling, faster builds, increased testing, and higher team ownership.

Dave has also started migrating the company away from feature-driven teams to platform-based teams in order to decrease troubleshooting time, increase ownership, and drive quality. Additionally, they have implemented process changes to increase cross-team architecture using Initiative Story Mapping, Epic Story Mapping, and story kickoffs, Gherkin style Acceptance Criteria, and RCA on bugs, blockers, and poorly specified stories.

Technologies that Dave is familiar with include Kotlin, java, swift, objective C, GoLang, PHP (sadly), ReactJS, vueJS, AWS and Bitrise. In addition to their technical skills, Dave has also managed our contractor relationships and centralized management of our team structure to help the organization understand the ways Product, Project, and Engineering work together.

Dave Hampton has a BBA in Marketing and a BA in Broadcast Communications from Southern Methodist University. Dave also has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Southern Methodist University.

A direct report to Dave Hampton is and Igor Morozov - Director, Engineering. Their manager is Krishna Subramanian, CEO & Co-founder. They work with Lynn D’Alessandro - Head, Global Partnerships, Chris Ji - Head, Platform & Business Development, and Saeyoung Cho - Head, Strategy.
