Leila Toplic has extensive work experience in various leadership roles. Leila currently serves as the Chief Communications and Trust Officer at Carbonfuture, starting in March 2023. Prior to this, they were a member of the Expert Committee for the Digital Trust Label at Swiss Digital Initiative, where they played a key role in strengthening trust in digital services.

Leila has also worked as a Strategic Advisor at Kickstart Innovation, focusing on Smart Cities and New Work & Learning verticals. Additionally, they served as a Technology Ethics Board Member at Witty Works | Unlock diversity with inclusive language, where they contributed to the development of inclusive language practices.

Leila's experience also includes working at Salesforce as a Technology Ethics and Human Rights Senior Advisor. Leila contributed to ensuring ethical practices in technology and human rights.

Furthermore, Leila held the position of Head of Emerging Technologies Initiative at NetHope, a nonprofit consortium of global NGOs. In this role, they led collaborations and partnerships addressing global issues such as climate change and refugee education.

Leila has also been involved as a Member of the Advisory Group for the Global Declaration on Connectivity for Education at UNESCO. Leila contributed to establishing principles and commitments to ensure equal access to education.

Prior to their current roles, Leila held leadership positions at LRNG by Collective Shift, Samasource, and Microsoft. In these roles, they led communications and marketing strategies, ensured effective go-to-market approaches, and built partnerships.

Leila Toplic obtained their BA degree in Media Arts and Sciences & Peace and Justice Studies from Wellesley College, where they studied from 1997 to 2001. Leila has also pursued additional certifications to expand their knowledge and expertise. In December 2017, they obtained a Design Sprint Foundations Nanodegree from Udacity. In April 2018, they received a certification in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in International Development from TechChange. In January 2019, they gained expertise in Blockchain for International Development through a certification program from TechChange. Leila further enhanced their skills by completing the RI101x: Responsible Innovation: Ethics, Safety and Technology certification program offered by edX in February 2020. In May 2021, they became an expert instructor in AI Ethics for Nonprofits through a certification program by NetHope. Most recently, in January 2022, they obtained the edX Blockchain Certificate: Understanding Its Uses and Implications.
