“Exceptional confidence and leadership, achieving levels far beyond expectations for their age and stage” - Education Scotland 2023

Established in 1873, Cargilfield is the only standalone day and boarding prep school and nursery in Edinburgh for boys and girls aged 3 to 13.

We offer a broad curriculum with high academic expectations, preparing children for senior schools across Scotland and Britain. Our small, close-knit community allows for personalised attention to each child while maintaining a busy, full-day schedule. Children benefit from a broad range of activities, including sports, music, drama, expressive art and a rich outdoor adventure programme. We offer wrap-around care, evening clubs as well as flexible boarding. With a strong emphasis on pastoral care to ensure emotional well-being, each child is equipped for future success in both academics and life.

Beyond the classroom, Cargilfield is a lively school with extended school days, less homework, extensive extracurricular offerings, and a strong pastoral care program.

Boarding is at the heart of the school and we offer weekly and flexible boarding opportunities.
